School Background

Our school grew out of the Two-Way Spanish Immersion (TWSI) program that operated at Fruit Ridge School, Sacramento City Unified School, which began in 1994. In order to advance the goals of the TWSI program, parents and teachers of the Fruit Ridge community united to create a public charter school. In February 2004, the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) School Board unanimously approved the charter, and the Language Academy of Sacramento (LAS) became a directly funded independent public charter school. LAS officially opened its doors on August 30, 2004.

All programmatic and fiscal decisions are based on the LAS Charter and approved by our school’s independent Governing Board comprised of teachers, parents and community members.
We continue to collaborate with Sacramento City Unified School District as our local authorizing agency.
